Job Position: Lead Carpenter
A Behal Sampson Dietz “Lead Carpenter” oversees a carpentry crew of 2-5 carpenters, and has minor responsibilities in overall on-site supervision of sub trades. Our work predominantly encompasses interior trim, however an opening for a framing-lead position also exists.
A Lead Carpenter’s Responsibilities:
- Schedules the day-to-day activities of the carpentry crew, works with the site manger to develop the mid range and long range carpentry schedules for the project.
- Assists in ordering all short-lead carpentry materials, accepts all carpentry material deliveries, and assures conformance of all carpentry work to the architectural drawings and generally accepted carpentry standards.
- Assures all quality control standards are meet or exceeded, and tracks carpentry budgets and time recording.
- Engineers carpentry details for the projects.
- Assures on-site safety of the carpentry crew.
- Works for and reports to the site manager.
A Lead Carpenter’s Profile and Qualifications:

- Lead Carpenters must be good managers. They must be able to arrange and coordinate a multitude of differing carpentry activities - successfully.
- Lead Carpenters are the designated leaders of the on-site carpentry operations and must take that responsibility and use it to meet the demands of the project. That being to complete the carpentry portions of the projects under budget and ahead of schedule, while achieving the satisfaction and loyalty of the client, and the respect of the entire project team.
- 10 years experience in the carpentry field—with a minimum of 3 years in carpentry crew management is required.
- Specific experience in high-end, architecturally designed, one-of-a-kind custom residential projects would be a perfect match.
- Carpentry knowledge and skills commensurate with that of a Master Carpenter are a strict requirement.
- Exceptional people-skills and creativity in dealing with challenges is a must.
